President postpones visit to R. Moldova

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis decided to postpone his visit to Republic of Moldova initially due on January 22-23 after a phone conversation with his Moldovan counterpart, Nicolae Timofti. The two officials agreed that conditions are not met yet for Iohannis’ visit, as negotiations on the new Kishinev government’s structure are still in progress.

According to a press release issued by the Romanian Presidential Administration, “President Iohannis expressed hope again that a strong, representative Government having an European agenda could be voted by the new Parliament in Kishinev as soon as possible.”

“Both top officials thought the election of the Parliament’s leadership and Government’s validation will ensure the conditions of a pragmatic, comprehensive political dialogue, targeted to support the Republic of Moldova’s European path,” also reads the press release.

Thus, Iohannis’s state visit to Kishinev was agreed to occur after the new Government is established.

Political pro-European parties in Kishinev haven’t reached any consensus on the Government so far, even if parliamentary elections were held on November 30 last year.
