Preventive arrest decision pending for Hrebenciuc Senior

Viorel Hrebenciuc has been detained on Tuesday in the illegal retrocessions file. Former PSD MP has left DNA Brasov unit handcuffed.

After almost five hours of hearings, Viorel Hrebenciuc left the National Anticorruption Direction (DNA) in Brasov and he is to be taken to the Supreme Court for a sentence regarding his preventive arrest, provided that on his name there has already been emitted an ordinance for being retained.

At DNA Brasov, Hrebenciuc was asked whether he is ready for the worse and he responded affirmatively, though mentioning that he is not afraid because he knows what he has done.

“Yes, I am ready. In two-three months you will be laughing at the file. I have to tell you one more thing: fear has dominated Romania for years. All our actions are paralyzed with fear, no one is signing any paper, no one is having any initiative, and everyone is having a fright which becomes famous for now. I have demonstrated with my gesture that I am not afraid because I know what I have done. I have no reason for not open-heartedly presenting myself before the DNA prosecutors,” said Hrebenciuc. He also stated that “DNA is not a scarecrow for those who haven’t gone too much wrong.”

Asked whether he expects to be detained, Hrebenciuc answered: “Certainly.” As whether he considers himself betrayed by PSD, Hrebenciuc said: “There are coincidences which happened, but in no way the party has betrayed me and I have never betrayed the party.”

The Chamber of Deputies took note, on Monday, of Viorel Hrebenciuc’s resignation from Parliament. Hrebenciuc, for whom DNA demanded the approval for preventive arrest in two files, signed on October 21st his resignation from Parliament.

His son, Andrei Hrebenciuc, has been detained last week for one month, being involved and charged in the same file on illegal retrocessions.
