Prince Charles meets President Iohannis, offers British support in implementing national parks know-how

President Klaus Iohannis informed he met Prince Charles in Sunday at Cotroceni Palace, pointing out he is a man who cherishes Romania and who promotes Transylvanian locations wherever he goes abroad.

“Today I met Prince Charles at Cotroceni Palace. He is a man who cherishes Romania and promotes the Transylvanian places wherever he goes abroad. I enjoyed meeting him, I am glad he is representing us and that he speaks about Romania as if it was part of his soul,” Iohannis wrote on Facebook.

According to a press release of the Presidential Administration, at the beginning of his meeting at the Cotroceni Palace with Klaus Iohannis, Prince Charles recalled his first visit to Sibiu, praising the way the city developed during Iohannis’ term as mayor, thus contributing to preserving the historic and cultural heritage of Transylvania.

“President Klaus Iohannis has appreciated the involvement of the Prince of Wales in preserving the particularities of Transylvanian communities and in encouraging the environmental protection and biodiversity in the area. Furthermore, another topic of discussion was the joint concern for the valorization of the natural and historical patrimony of the entire Romania”, the press release shows.

President Iohannis emphasized that he will grant particular importance during his mandate to the preservation of the patrimony, to preserving the historical traditions and to environment protection.

In this context, the Prince of Wales mentioned the successful experience of national parks in the United Kingdom and showed the British side’s availability to support the Romanian authorities in implementing good practices in this matter.

Furthermore, during the visit, the Prince thanked Romania for its sustained contribution in the theaters of operations and in combating international terrorism.

At the end of the meeting, the Prince of Wales invited President Iohannis to pay a visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, invitation accepted by the Romanian head of state.

Prince Charles came at Cotroceni Palace a year ago, too when he met former president Traian Basescu. Previously he had visited several cities in Transylvania. The British crown’s heir has visited Romania many times in the past years, paying private visits to Mures, Covasna, Harghita and Brasov counties.
