PSD and ALDE, the parties forming the ruling coalition, have abandoned idea of setting up an inquiry parliamentary committee to probe into the Protection and Service scandal, prompted by the PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea’s allegations against the SPP head, Lucian Pahontu.
The leaders of the ruling coalition, Liviu Dragnea and Calin Popescu Tariceanu had a short discussion in Dragnea’s office at the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday. Although they avoided saying if a conclusion had been reached on the inquiry committee, sources attending the debate told Digi24 that the decision has been that such a committee is not opportune at the moment.
However, on Tuesday Dragnea didn’t rule out that such a committee to be set up.
The chairman of the Defense committee in the Senate, Liberal Marcel Vela invited the PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea in the committee to present his accusations against the SPP, adding that Lucian Pahontu might be also heard.
The Liberal argued that SPP is a major institution and, besides the dignitaries’ protection, it also provides protection of some classified documents in the Supreme Defence Council (CSAT) and therefore, giving up the SPP state protection might jeopardize the national security.
