PSD local leaders start lashing out at Liviu Dragnea

One day after PSD lost EP elections with the poorest score in the party’s history, the Social Democrat local leaders accused PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea for the defeat, with some of them asking for his resignation from the helm of the party.

After leader of PSD Vrancea Marian Oprisan and Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea had called on Dragnea to step down, today other two important local leaders accused Dragnea for the failure and urged him to leave.

The leader of the PSD Suceava branch, Dan Ioan Cusnir, has accused Dragnea of tyranny and of seizing the party. “You know, PSD doesn’t belong to you and to Codrin Stefanescu, and you also have to know that millions of PSD members hate you”, Cusnir told Dragnea.

The local SocDem leader said the Sunday’s vote is the clearest proof of the price paid by the largest and longest-living party in Romania, which has to suffer now because it is related to „Liviu Dragnea and his men”.

Helped by his close friends, has seized PSD and behaves like a tyrant. Liviu Dragnea has hunted down all those who have voiced opposition in the party, but sooner or later, the hunter always becomes hunted. Liviu Dragnea, you should know PSD is not yours or Codrin Stefanescu’s and you’d better also know that millions of PSD members and followers hate you (…) It’s high time Liviu Dragnea takes the political risk, to admit it’s a wrong path and to leave. It’s not me who should leave, but you should go to the Prosecutor’s Office, together with Codrin Ştefănescu”, Cusnir argued.

Earlier this morning district 3 Bucharest mayor Robert Negoita has also slammed Dragnea, saying the PSD score in the EP elections “is a pleasant surprise”, while underlining that “a certain wicked way to rule should not have been and should not be encouraged, but, on the contrary, sanctioned”.

In retort to Negoita’s statements, PSD secretary general Codrin Stefanescu, and one of Dragnea’s basemen, told journalists not to take in account “these little snots” like Negoita, for “they have nothing to do with the party. “There are branches where PSD scored 47% and others who scored 16% like the one of Negoita,” Stefanescu argued.

Marian Oprisan, leader of PSD Vrancea, has slammed Dragnea since last night, after the exit polls had been announced. Sources from the party revealed Oprisan would have personally asked Dragnea to step down, with the PSD chair saying he is thinking about that.

Local mass media says that Oprisan would be so voice-activated against Dragnea, as he is targeting his seat at the helm of the party.

The PSD Executive Committee will be convened tomorrow as of 6 p.m., with political sources disclosing the party will decide on the path to be taken after Liviu Dragnea’s conviction. Oprisan stated that “the party is taking a new path”.

PSD sources told mass media that PM Viorica Dancila would take over the interim leadership of the party.
