PSD takes over the helm of SRI special committee in Parliament. The intelligence service leadership summoned on Coldea issue

The Social Democrat Party took over the leadership of the committee for SRI (Romanian Intelligence Service) control committee in Parliament, and plans to name their member at the helm of the committee for the SIE control, which stirred the Liberals’ discontent, who say that, according to the protocol in Parliament, the National Liberal Party is entitled to lead the parliamentary committee for the SIE control.

Adrian Tutuianu, senator of Dambovita was designated to lead the SRI committee, while Marian Gheorghe Cupsa (ALDE) will ve vice-president and Verestoy Attila (UDMR) secretary. Doina Federovici, Radu Băbuș, Gabriel Nasra, Cezar Preda, Ioan Cristian Chirteș, Manuel Costescu are members.

The president of the committee Adrian Tutuianu announced that he would invite the SRI leadership in Parliament to give explanations on suspended deputy director Florian Coldea’s situation.

“I think things must be cleared up as soon as possible, that’s why on Tuesday I will have a first meeting of the committee and we’ll address a letter to the SRI director and we’ll agree by mutual agreement to have a meeting, the date and the hour, as this is institutionally polite and fair,” Tutuianu said. Asked if it will be only Eduardd Hellvig summoned for hearings or both hi and his first deputy Florian Coldea, Tutuianu said it will be a hearing of the SRI leadership, adding that “for now Coldea is part of SRI”.

According to sources to local news agencies, PSD will propose deputy Mihai Weber to take over the helm of the SIE committee, with deputy Dorel Caprar as a member.

On the other side, the Liberals slammed the ruling party’s move to lay hands on the parliamentary committees. PNL interim chairwoman Raluca Turcan said that PSD is behaving like a “red army coming and conquering the Parliament”.

There were negotiations between PNL and the other parties. There is also a protocol assumed by all parliamentary parties and that protocol says that PNL was entitled to take over the SIE committee’s helm. Last night, advisers said, Mr. Dragnea said he wanted to take all. What gives you the right to take all institutions and dominate all, in a feudal-like <democracy>? That would be regrettable. They would behave just like a red army that comes and conquers the Parliament. I think it would be fair that PNL, the second party in size to hold the leadership of a special committee,” Turcan said.

She added that if PNL took over the SIE committee’s helm, the position would be given to deputy Cezar Preda.
