PSD’s Dragnea denies party is facing destabilization

Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Liviu Dragnea said on Sunday that there is no risk for his party to face destabilization as he and the current party leadership have taken the party towards openness, dialogue and a European track from which it does not want to steer away, despite pressure and some having hidden thoughts.

“There is no risk of PSD getting destabilised,” Dragnea said in reply to Iasi Mayor Mihai Chirica to Romania TV private broadcaster.

“Both I and the current party leadership have taken the party in a direction from which I do not want to steer away, a direction of openness, dialogue and a European track. I do not want to steer away, despite pressure from inside and outside the party, irrespective of the consequences,” Dragnea said.

He mentioned he did not talk with the Iasi mayor because communicating with him is very hard, adding that Chirica only showed up for to four party meetings, despite being an acting chairman of the party in Iasi. He said contrary opinions have to be discussed inside the party with arguments to back them up, but Chirica preferred to have the conversation via the press and television.
