Romania will have a new ambassador to Vatican

Presidential advisor George Gabriel Bologan was released from his position, being accredited ambassador of Romania to the Holy See, Vatican, the Presidential Administration announced on Monday, October 28, in a press release.

According to the press release, President Klaus Iohannis signed the decree on Monday for the dismissal of presidential adviser George Gabriel Bologan.

Also on Monday, Iohannis signed the decree regarding Bologan’s accreditation “as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Romania to the Holy See”.

George Gabriel Bologan was appointed presidential advisor for foreign policy on February 6, 2024. He replaced Bogdan Aurescu (appointed last summer), who had been elected a judge of the UN International Court of Justice.

George-Gabriel Bologan was Romania’s ambassador to Italy from 2016, and from March 2022 he was Romania’s ambassador to Spain, being recalled by Iohannis in January, before the end of his four-year mandate.
