Romanian FM accepts Iranian counterpart’s invitation to visit Tehran this year

Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu met his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Thursday, ahead UN General Assembly, with the head of the Romanian diplomacy receiving the invitation to pay a visit to Tehran this year on the occasion of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Romania and Iran.

“The Iranian FM expressed appreciation regarding the traditional cooperation relations with Romania, delivering his country’s interest in enhancing the political-diplomatic partnership, as well as economic ties,” reads a press release issued by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his turn, FM Aurescu proposed that the activity of the Joint Economic Committee should be resumed, with the Iranian counterpart agreeing on that. The committee is set to break the ground for expanding the economic cooperation as the sanctions against Iran are lifted.

“Minister Bogdan Aurescu and his Iranian counterpart agreed to continue and increase the frequency and the substance of the political talks between the two ministries. Thus, the Romanian FM has been invited to pay a visit to Tehran this year, to mark the celebration of 50 years since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic relations. The Romanian minister accepted the invitation,” reads the press release.
