Romanian intelligence general: All Russian secret services attempted cyber attacks against Romania

The head of the Cyberint center within the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), General Anton Rog, says that all three Russian intelligence services tried to launch cyber attacks against Romania, after the launch of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The statement was made to StakeBorg’s YouTube channel.

“All 3 Russian intelligence services, FSB, GRU and SVR, attacked important institutions of the Romanian Government with a complex malware of the Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) type. It’s a malware that doesn’t make noise, that stays in networks for a long time, that has some extremely innovative methods of stealing data, and that stays there for a very long time,” said Anton Rog.

The FSB is Russia’s domestic intelligence service, the SVR is Russia’s foreign intelligence service, and the GRU is the military’s intelligence service.

“Until the war in Ukraine started, there were two services buzzing around us – the GRU with APT28 and the FSB with much more complex malware. GRU is louder, it’s from the army. FSB is more stylish and with more complex malware. Since the war started, SVR has also come, with APT29. Advanced Persistent Threat is a cybercrime group funded and coordinated by an intelligence service, the respective state. We call him in wooden language a state actor”, he explained.
