Romanian politicians send their concern over King Mihai’s health

President Klaus Iohannis said he received the news on King Mihai’s health with concern, stating that he wishes His Majesty “has the strength to get over these difficult moments.”

I wish that the King has the strength to come over these difficult moments and I express my hope that the Royal Family will keep being the same special benchmark of hope and solidarity. Particularly during these hard times, it’s important that we should not forget the reliable bold and dedication example that His Majesty the King has given to this nation since 1927,” the Romanian president wrote on Facebook.

PM Dacian Cioloș also transmitted to King Mihai that “God may give him strength, energy and may support him with love, like His Majesty also gave love, hope and has supported his people over the decades.” “I am deeply concerned with the news regarding His Majesty King Mihai’s health. At these difficult moments, I send him a good thought of optimism and health (…),” the prime minister posted in Facebook.

Former president Ion Iliescu also expressed his concern over the King’s health, saying that his presence in the Romanian public space was an example of balance and contributed to a climate of normality.

Ex-premier Petre Roman told Mediafax that King Mihai’s withdrawal stirs a deep regret, pointing out that Crown Princess Margareta and Prince Duda are able to bring a positive contribution through the way they are relating to the realities of the society.

The honorary president of the National Liberal Party, Mircea Ionescu Quintus who is older than King Mihai (Quintus is born in 1917, while the King in 1921) said he bows his forehead to the King, stating that Romania’s and his personal destiny are strictly related to His Majesty’s actions.

I remember very well that one of my first public reactions occurred on November 8, 1945, when I attended the protest and solidarity rally for His Majesty in Ploiesti. It was the hazard that my life began with an arrest. I was not only attending the meeting, I also led it for the former young king who is so old today but so esteemed all over the world and particularly across Europe’s royal families,” Ionescu Quintus said.

Although stripped of his Prince title and removed from the line of succession by his grandfather, the King, his grandson Nicolae Medforth Mills posted a short but moving message on Facebook. He says that “the King has always thought of His country, especially while in the harsh exile.” “Now, the country has the duty to think of its King. I wish you good health, your Majesty,” reads the former Prince’s message.
