Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday evening left for an official visit to Germany, unveiling his agenda for talks, particularly the focus on Romania’s joining Schengen Area. Iohannis is to meet German president Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel. An encounter with the Bundestag president and a meeting with Romanians living in Germany are also included.
“We are counting on Germany’s support for the real and deep Romania’s integration in the European core. We have many points that link us to Germany. We’ll tackle the perspective of Romania’s joining Schengen. We shall also talk about the security evolution on our continent and about the Ukraine situation. Republic of Moldova is another point of particular interest to us,” Iohannis stated on the airport before taking off for Berlin.
