The public salary law draft has been sealed and politically assumed by the ruling coalition leaders in a meeting in Sinaia on Thursday evening.
They argued that they decided not to waste 30 days for a public debate and to table the draft in Parliament. The PSD-ALDE ruling coalition voiced hope the draft will be voted by the end of this parliamentary session and the new salary law should be enforced as of July 1.
Labour minister Olguta Vasilescu presented the salary grids of the dignitaries, with the highest pay going to the Romanian President- RON 17,400 (gross income), followed by the Prime Minister, the Parliament speakers and the heads of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court- RON 15,950, and ministers- RON 14,500.
However, the wages of the high-ranking officials will decrease according to the new law. At present, Romania’s President, the premier and the speakers of the Parliament chambers are earning RON 21,540 per month.
At the same time, ministers will get lower wages. They will receive RON 14, 500 gross income, compared to RON 19,055 at present.
MPs will be the most advantaged according to the new salary grid, as they will get considerably higher salaries as of July, RON 11,600 gross income per month, about double compared to what they have at present.
Secretaries of state will also see higher wages, with their monthly pay climbing to RON 10,150.
The Ombudsman will get RON 14,500 per month, the president of the Courts of Accounts- RON 14,500 and the Patriarch, leader of the Romanian Orthodox Church- RON 14,500.
