The mayor of Iasi, Social Democrat Mihai Chirica, recently stripped of all party positions by the leadership, thanked the locals for their support in a Facebook post and told us they don’t have to take to the street to endorse him, but to endorse democracy.
„I don’t encourage to take to the street for me personlly! You have to follow your ideal. My public stances lately were not aimed at politicizing the public space! I have always supported and always will ithe idea of a real democracy both in the political space and outside! Thank you, I admire and love you! #Resist,” the mayor posted on Facebook.
The Social Democrat Party’s leadership party decided on Wednesday that Mihai Chirica remains a party member but stripped him of all party positions. Chirica was PSD vice-president and president of the PSD Iasi organization.
The mayor slammed the Government’s for adopting the controversial emergency ordinance no 13 amending the criminal law, and also launched an attack against the current party leadership and chairman Liviu Dragnea.
After being stripped of party positions, Chirica continued criticism against Dragnea, stating in a press conference on Friday that he didn’t know you have to stay “shrimp, head downwards” in a party and to accept just the word of “someone that is contradicting himself on the whole”. Chirica also said that he left the CExN meeting “stronger, a little bit husky and more toughened”.
