The ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD) whose Cabinet led by Viorica Dancila has been dismissed by censure motion on Thursday, is convening for a party meeting this evening, with sources claiming that several party leaders, led by Paul Stanescu, former deputy PM, Chamber Speaker Marcel Ciolacu and Gabriela Firea, Bucharest mayor are discussing solutions to reform the party, with that including the removal of the current leadership represented by chairwoman Viorica Dancila, FinMin Eugen Teodorovici, and Secretary General Mihai Fifor.
30 leaders would participate in this encounter, including MPs and local leaders such as Olguța Vasilescu, Claudiu Manda, Dan Nica, Marian Oprișan, Ionel Arsene or Ion Rotaru.
Sources told Digi24 that they are questioning Mihai Fifor’s position in the party, as well as Viorica Dancila’s legitimacy as the party leader and as candidate in the presidential election.
The discontent wing of PSD are mainly upset they have been no real dialogue in the party after the Dăncilă-Teodorovici-Fifor leadership had been installed.
Sources also claim that Dancila might be forced to resign from the PSD helm and that a Congress might be held early next year to elect a new leadership.
Some local leaders like Marian Oprisan has switched gears regarding Dancila. If no earlier than June this year, the leader of PSD Vrancea branch was praising Dancila, calling her “smart and honest”, now Oprisan would have told his colleagues during a meeting that “if you search Romania’s stupid on Google, you find Dancila”.
