Palestine’s ambassador in Romania, Fuad Kokaly, said that he doesn’t believe PM Dancila’s statement on relocating the embassy to Jerusalem was a personal approach.
“I don’t believe this is a personal approach. I think it is the approach of PSD, of the PSD leaders, Dragnea, Dancila and others. What Dancila did yesterday is first of all against Romania’s commitments that they gave us last year during the meetings between us and the Romanian counterpart.
And secondly, it is against the international law and the international legitimacy, and also against the European criteria about Jerusalem. I think that because she wants to support Netanyahu to be again a prime minister in Israel. She should not go to this square, she has to be cleverer”, the Palestinian ambassador told Digi24.
In another statement to Realitatea TV, ambassador Kokaly said the Arabs had been ‘surprised” by PM Dancila’s statement on the embassy in Israel, arguing this statement will ruin Romania’s hopes to be voted by the Arab states in the UN Security Council.
On the other side, last night, Israeli Embassy in Bucharest voiced hope that Romania’s diplomatic representation will relocate from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
“The Embassy of the State of Israel congratulates premier Dancila for the statements within AIPAC Conference in Washington. We voice hop that, in the near future, Romania’s Embassy relocated to Jerusalem, Israel’s eternal capital,” reads an embassy’s statement.
