The Central Electoral Bureau has announced that the turnout for the EP elections stood at 46.34% by 20:00hrs and at 38.96% for the referendum at 20:00hrs on Sunday.
Turnout 19:00hrs
The Central Electoral Bureau has announced that the turnout for the EP elections stood at 42.87% by 19:00hrs and at 35.86% for the referendum at 19:00hrs on Sunday.
During the EP elections in 2014, the turnout at 19:00hrs stood only at 26.52%.
In the urban areas, 4.5 million people (4,503,172) had cast their votes by 19:00hrs, while in the countryside the number of voters at the polls by the same hour was 3,329,718.
The counties reporting the highest turnout were Ilfov (53.2%), Cluj (52.5%), Sibiu (48.7%), while the lowest turnout was recorded in Vaslui (31%), Botoşani (35%), Ialomiţa (36%).
The turnout in Bucharest stood at 45.4% by 19:00hrs, which means 816,879 people went to polls.
As for the referendum, it is as if already validated, as the turnout stood at 35.86% (6,551,417 voters). The highest turnout were reported in Alba (41.4%), Arad (36.3%), Argeş (35.2%). In Bucharest, the turnout stood at 39% at 19:00hrs.
264,598 people cast their vote on the referendum in Diaspora.
Turnout 18:00hrs
The threshold of 30% has been met to validate the referendum. The referendum will be officially validated only after the votes are counted and checked.
The Central Electoral Bureau has announced that the turnout for the EP elections stood at 39.01% by 18:00hrs and at 32.49% for the referendum.
Turnout 17:00hrs
The vote turnout across the country in the referendum on justice was 29.11pc by 17:00hrs and the one for the EP elections stood at 35.07 by the same hour, according to the data released on the website of the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC).
The counties ranking first on the turnout for EP elections were: Ilfov (43%), Cluj (42.4%), Sibiu (40.3%). At the bottom of the ranking, Vaslui (25.3%), Ialomiţa (28.1%), Călăraşi (29%).
In Bucharest, 37.6% people had voted for the European elections by 17:00hrs, and in Diaspora, 208,790 Romanians had cast their votes for the EP elections by the same hour.
The turnout results for the referendum are close to validation.
Turnout at 16:00hrs
The vote turnout across the country in the referendum on justice was 25.90pc by 16:00hrs and the one for the EP elections stood at 31.29 by the same hour, according to the data released on the website of the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC).
As against the 2014, the turnout is much larger, with only 18.41% being reported five years ago at the same hour.
There were 5.717.682 voters reported to the polls at 16:00hrs for the European elections, with 3,353,977 from the urban area and 2,363,705 from the rural area.
The highest ranking counties on turnout were Ilfov (38.3%), Cluj (37.6%), Sibiu (36.1%). The lowest ranking- Vaslui (22.4%), Ialomiţa (24.9%), Călăraşi (25.6%).\
In Bucharest, 609,845 people had voted by 16:00hrs, which means 33.89%.
In Diaspora there were 180,527 Romanians who voted.
BEC informed that the turnout for the referendum on justice stood at 25.90% at 16:00hrs, meaning 4,733,184 people having voted.
The highest turnout was reported in Cluj (34.37 %), the lowest in Vaslui (18.67 %).
In Bucharest, the turnout reached 28.76%, while 178,111 people had voted for the referendum abroad by 16:00hr.
Turnout 15:00hrs
The vote turnout across the country in the referendum on justice was 22.83pc by 15:00hrs and the one for the EP elections stood at 27.68 by the same hour, according to the data released on the website of the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC).
For the referendum, the turnout exceeds half of the needed votes for the referendum to be validated.
By 15:00hrs there were 5,058,070 voters casting their votes for the EP elections, with 2.99 millions in the cities and 2.06 millions in the countryside. So, there is a difference of almost one million votes between the city and the urban area.
In Diaspora, 152,851 people had voted by that hour.
At the referendum, the turnout stood at 22.83% by 15:00hrs, with the highest turnout being reported in Cluj- 29.9%, and the lowest in Vaslui- 16.3%.
150,688 Romanians from abroad had exerted their right to vote at the referendum for justice by 15:00hrs. History seems to be repeated in Diaspora like in 2014’s presidential elections, when Romanians living abroad queued for hours to be able to vote.
Turnout at 14:00hrs
The vote turnout across the country in the referendum on justice stood at 19.61pc for the referendum, and 23.91pc for the European elections by 14:00hrs on Sunday, according to BEC.
Most of the voters were reported in the urban environment (2,596,424) for the EP elections, while in the countryside 1,772,331 Romanians voted until 14:00hrs.
The counties that ranked first on turnout until 14:00hrs were Ilfov (28.8%), Cluj (27.7%), Sibiu (27.3%), while those with the lowest turnout were Vaslui (17.1%), Satu Mare (19.4%), Ialomiţa (19.5%).
In Bucharest, the turnout for the European elections stood at 25.6% until 14:00hrs.
BEC reported that 125,808 Romanians had voted in Diaspora by this hour for the EP elections.
As for the vote on the justice referendum, the turnout stood at 19.61% by 14:00hrs, with the highest tunout being reported in Sibiu – 25.4% and the lowest in Vaslui- 14.14%. In Diaspora, there were 123,912 Romanians voting for the referendum.
BEC announced that a 270% turnout had been reported in Paltinis mountain resort, favoured by President Iohannis as ski destination.
Turnout at 13:00hrs
Turnout stood at 16.08 percent, while the turnout for the European elections mounted to 19.75 pc until 13:00hrs, according to the data released on the website of the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC).
The vote turnout at the EP elections in 2014 was lower at 13:00hrs, 12.54pc compared to the one today.
Turnout at 13:00hrs in 2009 during the referendum back then was 19.62pc.
People were queuing to vote in several polling sections in Bucharest and other big cities. The longer queues have been reported in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Sibiu or Constanta. People of all ages, young or old, were queuing from 10 to 30 minutes to enter the polling stations and cast their vote.
President Klaus Iohannis, who initiated the referendum for justice, voted “Jean Monnet” High School in Bucharest, arguing that May 26 is an important day and urged Romanians to vote.
“This is an important day and I am not telling this just to you, journalists, but all Romanians: Come to the polls!”, he told the journalists, before casting his own ballot.
Upon leaving the polling station President Iohannis urged Romanians again to show up at the polling stations.
“Come to vote, my dear Romanians! Come to vote today, when the power is all yours. Today, we decide together how Romania will look like tomorrow. It does matter, your vote really counts! Today, my dear Romanians, you take a decision for the upcoming months, for the upcoming years. These are the first elections from a longer cycle. This is the beginning of a new series of elections and today you can start to change Romania. I voted. In the electoral campaign I discovered that we had more vote mobilization initiatives than we have ever had before. This makes me very happy and I want to thank all those who initiated such mobilization campaigns, be them simple citizens, companies and NGOs. Do come, dear Romanians, to vote! Don’t let others decide for you,” he stated.
When he arrived at the polling station, several persons were waiting in line to exercise their right to vote, and the head of the state also waited in line, after greeting the members of the polling station’s committee. “I am glad to be here with you,” he told those waiting in line.
Record turnout in a polling station: 75 pc people had voted by 11:30hrs
BEC has reported that a record turnout had been registered in a polling station in a village in Alba county: 75pc turnout by 11:30 hrs, meaning 29 voters, among whom 11 had voted on additional lists.
Turnout at 12:00hrs
BEC announced a turnout of 15.06 pc for the European elections at 12:00hrs and 12.16% for the referendum at the same hour.
Turnout stood at almost 75pc around 11:30hrs in Colibi, Alba county.
Turnout at 11:00hrs
In the urban area, 924,677 electors voted, whereas in the rural area 627,604 by 11:00hrs
According to the BEC, in Bucharest 8.86 percent cast their vote. In District 1 – 10.36pct; in District 2 – 8.82pct; in District 3 – 7.60pct; in District 4 – 8.90pct; in District 5 – 7.83pct, and in District 6 – 9.37PCT.pct.
Higher turnouts were reported in the following counties: Ilfov – 11.6pct; Constanta – 10.83pct; Sibiu – 10.57pct.
Lower turnouts were reported in the following counties: Vaslui – 6.50pct; Suceava – 6.76pct and Botosani – 6.78pct.
