The American congressmen received on Tuesday morning at the Cotroceni Palace discussed with Ilie Bolojan about last year’s elections and were satisfied with the clarifications provided by the interim president and did not express concerns regarding the May elections, according to Digi24 sources.

“The US strategic military policy remains unchanged, with no concerns expressed regarding a withdrawal of US troops from Romania,” the Romanian side said at the end of the discussion at Cotroceni regarding the US troops in Romania.
On the other hand, the head of the US delegation told journalists, when asked about the subject, the following: “I don’t know exactly, I think everything is being reevaluated now. The president’s term only started two months ago (ed. note: Donald Trump). We are very optimistic about our relationship. We are discussing these issues, looking at them and we will come back with details.”
Vern Buchanan, the US representative, declared after the meeting of the American delegation with the interim president Ilie Bolojan: “We are present congressmen from both parties, Democrats and Republicans, to build our relationship and take it to another level. Our companies come here, they create jobs. We are here because this country is important to us, we want to work together on many topics, we had a very positive meeting. We hope to take this partnership to another level.”
The eight US congressmen also told Ilie Bolojan that they would support Romania’s inclusion in the Visa Waiver program. The subject of tariffs desired by US President Donald Trump was only touched upon in passing and was not a major concern in the discussion with the interim president, Digi24 sources also said.
Regarding last year’s elections, the US congressmen asked what happened when the second round was canceled, and they were satisfied with the clarifications provided by Ilie Bolojan. US officials did not express concerns about possible problems in the presidential elections in May.
Regarding Ukraine, the US Congressional delegation appreciated Romania’s position and showed that it understands the specific sensitivities of the Eastern Flank, the cited sources also said.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is also scheduled to have discussions with US representatives, which are scheduled for today at 4:00 p.m. Meetings with Romanian parliamentarians are also scheduled.
On Saturday, presidential advisor Cristian Diaconescu said that an American delegation is due to arrive in the country to receive “clarifications” about the annulment of the elections at the end of last year.
“We will also give answers about what happened, but also guarantees about what will happen,” Diaconescu detailed. According to him, other topics of discussion include the Black Sea strategy. The presidential advisor also stressed that at this moment there is no signal regarding the possible withdrawal of US troops in Europe.
