Ukraine Approves Agreement with Romania for Tisa River Road Bridge

The Ukrainian government approved on Tuesday the agreement with Romania for the construction of a road bridge over the Tisa River, according to the announcement made by the head of the Kiev Executive Denîs Shmîhal.

Şmîhal stated that the road bridge over the Tisa River will become a new logistics hub at the Bila Ţerkva – Sighetu Marmaţiei crossing point.

“The bridge will expand our export opportunities and accelerate the movement of people and goods across the border. This is part of a larger program to modernize logistics in the Western direction,” the Ukrainian prime minister explained.

The Romanian government approved in May 2023 a memorandum aimed at concluding an Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the opening of a new crossing point of the Romanian-Ukrainian state border Sighetu Marmaţiei and Bila Ţerkva, the new crossing point of the Romanian-Ukrainian state border Sighetu Marmaţiei (Romania) – Bila Terkva (Ukraine) to be achieved by building, at Sighetu Marmaţiei, a reinforced concrete bridge over the Tisa River.

The agreement was signed on October 18, 2023. On April 30, 2024, by Government decision, it was decided to build a road bridge over the Tisa River with the Romanian end in the Sighetul Marmaţiei area, with the two countries establishing a joint commission to coordinate all activities related to the construction of this infrastructure objective.
