Update: Is the PSD-ALDE ruling coalition at risk of falling apart? Tariceanu claims his ministers should not be reshuffled

It seems troubles are never ending for the Social-Democratic Party, as the internal problems seem to be doubled by disputed issues within the ruling coalition built with ALDE. The latest problem is related to the Government reshuffling, recently announced by PSD leader, Liviu Dragnea, and his intentions are not quite fit for the partners. Furthermore, ALDE reportedly does not agree with an emergency ordinance on amnesty and pardon, digi24.ro informs.

ALDE spokesman, Varujan Vorgsnian (photo 2), has posted a message on his Facebook page, in regard to the changes anticipated for the Viorica Dancila cabinet, defending the two ALDE ministers.

“Melescanu and Toader (Foreign Minister and Justice Minister, respectively – our note) improve the overall level of the Government. If one wants to improve the Government’s image, then the reshuffling should not start with one of them in any case,” Vosganian wrote, according to capital.ro.

One day before, PSD leader Liviu Dragnea had said about the Justice Minister: “the justice portfolio in within the portfolios PSD has assumed responsibility for, nevertheless, as it happened in the past and may happen in the future, PSD could support in such positions political non-affiliated persons. The fact that he is not a PSD member is not an obstacle for Mr. Toader, only his activity, as it is the case of other ministers. As the Senate Speaker position should have been for PSD, it was our decision to support Mr. Tariceanu (ALDE leader – our note),” Liviu Dragnea said.

The position expressed by ALDE comes within the context of rumours that Tudorel Toader and Teodor Melescanu are on the reshuffling list.

Sources quoted by Digi 24 TV private broadcaster say that ALDE has never agreed to replace the two ministers and furthermore it does not support an emergency ordinance on amnesty and pardon either.

Tariceanu says ALDE ministers should not be reshuffled

“I believe some changes would be useful for the Government. In regard to the ALDE ministers, I don’t hesitate saying I appreciate their activity as very good and there is no reason to be included on the reshuffling list,” ALDE leader Calin Popescu Tariceanu said on Wednesday, one day after returning from Brussels.

He claims Romania hasn’t had in a long time a justice minister of the value of Tudorel Toader. “He had the courage to assume responsibilities,” Tariceanu claims, adding that Toader is highly trained in the field of law. “I very much appreciate his activity as Justice Minister,” Tariceanu concluded.
