On the basis of this article, Germany has achieved reunification. My dear colleagues, Mr. President Candu (Moldovan Parliament Speaker – our note), Mr. Vice-Premier Leanca (Moldovan Vice-Premier, leader of the European People’s Party in R. of Moldova – our note), don’t we have the courage to say it openly, what we want? I am saying it unequivocally, openly: I want the union with Moldova! I want us together in Europe, but as a single nation,” Liviu Dragnea said during the solemn session.

President Klaus Iohannis sends message
President Klaus Iohannis has sent a message to the Parliament, on the occasion of the solemn sitting on Tuesday.
“Today, we celebrate 100 years since the Declaration of union of Bessarabia with the Kingdom of Romania, adopted by the Council of the Country in Chisinau, a political and patriotic decision that honours the elites of the time and all those who dreamt it and worked to accomplish it. It is one of the moments that define history, warm the souls and keep our conscience awake, generation after generation,” the message reads.
“Through the projects for democratisation and economic reform, promised by the Romanian Government in 1917, the union on March 27, 1918 represented for Bessarabia, not only the achievement of a national desiderate of the Romanians on both banks of Prut River, but also an attractive project for the future, a viable alternative to the dark perspective of Bolshevization. One thing is common to all the great achievements of Romania during the past century and a half: they have been made by associating our projects with the great European projects, by assimilating the values of the western humanism in our society. This was the case of the Great War, the same in the year of the Great Union which started with the union of Bessarabia with Romania. Currently, our convergence path is the European path of Republic of Moldova, for its success our country grants constant and consistent diplomatic, financial and technical support. Romania also has the duty to be, further on, for Republic of Moldova, an example of nation involved in the European project, a model of competitive economy, a society that knows how to value and capitalize its human potential. In this project, I believe we can rise to the height of the deeds we celebrate today,” the President’s message reads.
The union of Romania with Bessarabia a century ago was celebrated in Chisinau on Sunday, through a demonstration attended by political leaders from the two banks of the Prut River, while the pro-Russian Moldovan President, Igor Dodon, accuses Bucharest of maintaining a unionist feeling that wants to divide the country.
At the end of the demonstration in Chisinau, a Proclamation of the Great Centenary Assembly for reunification was adopted.
Tens of thousands of demonstrators attending the “Great Centennial Assembly” held in Chisinau on Sunday have adopted the Proclamation of the Great Centennial Assembly, according to which the unification of Bessarabia with Romania is the only solution for the survival and progress of Romanians between the Prut and the Dniester Rivers.
