Update: Voting intentions if presidential elections would take place now. PSD no longer leads preferences, IMAS survey reads

According to the latest survey conducted by IMAS, upon the request of Europa FM, if the presidential elections would take place now, the voting intentions of the Romanian electorate are divided. Although Pro Romania leader Victor Ponta has announced he will not run for presidency, he is included in the survey.

The favourite is Klaus Iohannis – 34.9% of voting intentions, followed by Calin Popescu Tariceanu – 12.9%, Victor Ponta – 12.7%, Dacian Ciolos – 8.2%, Liviu Dragnea – 5.2%, Ludovic Orban – 3.5%, Dan Barna – 2.3% and Eugen Tomac – 1.8%.

In regard to the PSD candidates for the head of state position, the electorate would prefer Gabriela Vranceanu Firea – 42%, followed by Liviu Dragnea – 23%, Ioan Aurel Pop – 4% and others 25%.

In terms of preferences for political parties, the survey reveals that, if parliamentary elections were scheduled next Sunday, PNL is first in Romanians’ options with 17.1%, followed by PSD – 16.4%, USR – 7.5%, ALDE – 6.4%, PLUS (party led by former PM Dacian Ciolos) would get 5.3%, Pro Romania – 4.1% and UDMR – 3%.

The survey reads that 8.5% of the interviewees would not go to the ballot and 26.1% said they don’t know whom to vote for or do not want to answer.

The survey was conducted upon the request of Europa FM by IMAS during December 4-20, 2018. The interviews were conducted by phone by CATI method (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing) on a sample of 1,010 individuals aged 18 and above. The error margin is of +/-3%.
