US Ambassador Hans Klemm said on Tuesday, after talking for over an hour with the members of the Defence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, that the talks focused on bilateral relations in the defence field in view of the NATO summit in Warsaw.
Ambassador Klemm said the meeting offered the opportunity to review the existing strong cooperation in the military, security and defence fields between Romania and the US. It was reviewed the level of the relationship that exists between the US and Romania in the field of defence, in light of the NATO summit in Warsaw in July, the US envoy said.
In turn, the chairman of the defence committee, deputy Ion Mocioalcă, said the talks were ‘fruitful’ and were focused on issues of security on the eastern flank, stressing that Romania wants a stronger military presence in the Black Sea.
“We’ve had a fruitful discussion about what is happening in the eastern flank of NATO and the discussion was somehow preparing the summit in Warsaw, where we hope to get a stronger military presence in this area and, why not, in the Black Sea, a military force to deter certain initiatives that have gained momentum lately, from those who are not members of NATO and especially from Russia,” Mocioalcă said.
