The new US Ambassador to Bucharest, Hans Klemm, has sent a message to the Romanian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan recently.
“I was saddened to hear about the Romanian soldiers who were injured in the attack involving an improvised explosive device during a mission in Afghanistan on Sunday. On behalf of the government of the United States, I want to express my sincere sympathy to the soldiers, their families, friends, and fellow soldiers and to wish them a speedy recovery.
They performed their mission courageously and the Romanian soldiers fulfil a vital role in NATO’s mission to oppose tyranny and extremism in Afghanistan. The United States is proud to have Romania as one of its closest allies in Afghanistan. We owe a debt of gratitude to these young men and the valiant men and women of the Romanian Army for their courage and self-sacrifice.
Three Romanian military activating in the “Resolute Support” mission in Afghanistan have been slightly injured following a blast of a trap car on Sunday morning, the Romanian Defence Ministry informed in a press release.
The military were patrolling somewhere about eight kilometers north of Kandahar military base.
The military have been transported to the hospital of the military base where they are still hospitalized, being now secure.
The three service men are part of the “Transylvanian Dragons” 811 Infantry Battalion. Lieutenant Adrian Ciprian Iriciuc and Corporal Sergiu Lineschi are in their second mission in Afghanistan, while corporal Ion Ichim is in his first mission in a theatre of operations. He was released from hospital on Sunday evening and returned to his battalion.
