While on a tour in the USA, Romanian PM Viorica Dancila was supposed to meet U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence on Wednesday, but the American official has cancelled the meeting at the last moment.
At the same time, in a meeting the Romanian delegation had with the US Secretary for Energy, Rick Perry on Tuesday, it was the Romanian FM Ramona Manescu who signed a memorandum on the cooperation in the civil nuclear sector, and not PM Dancila.
Moments of the meeting and during the signing ceremony are available in pictures and in a video published on the Government website.
Official sources told mass media that the State Secretary for Energy would have informed the Romanian side that he would not sign the cooperation memorandum with Viorica Dancila.
After the meeting, Rick Perry himself posted several pictures from the meeting on Twitter, but did not tag Viorica Dancila, but only FM Ramona Manescu.
In the summer last year, Rick Perry asked the Romanian ambassador in Washington DC, George Maior, that the Romanian authorities assure the concordance between the offshore bill and the annex which includes the calculations for expenditure deduction.
In October 2018, before the start of debates by the Chamber of Deputies Committee for Industry on the Offshore law, Rick Perry came to Romania and had a meeting with the former PSD president Liviu Dragnea, with the purpose of convincing the ex-SocDem leader to give up controversial provisions that would affect the big investors in the oil industry operating in Romania, including the Americans from the ExxonMobile.
Although Dragnea promised Rick Perry in the official meeting the party will drop part of the contested measures, the law did not suffer major amendments.
