USR Rules Out Any Electoral Alliances for December 1 Parliamentary Election

The Save Romania Union (USR) will run on its own lists in this year’s parliamentary and presidential elections. The party led by Elena Lasconi announced on Friday that it had negotiations with other parties to form a right-wing alliance, but their demands were “unreasonable and impossible to put into practice”.

The USR says that although a team made up of members of the USR National Office has held talks with representatives of right-wing parties in recent weeks in an attempt to forge an alliance for the presidential and parliamentary elections, this has not happened.

“However, the claims presented by the representatives of the other parties were unreasonable and impossible to put into practice. As a result, USR will go, with its engines revved to the maximum, in the next elections and will run on its own,” a statement from USR states.

“The purpose of the negotiations was to offer an alternative to the Romanians, so that Romania would be led by a right-wing president and a right-wing government, which would make reforms. Otherwise, Romania risks remaining under a toxic coalition, which annually increases taxes on citizens”, according to USR.

The President of USR, Elena Lasconi, says that although USR went to the other parties with “reasonable” proposals, the results were not what was expected.

“I sat at the table with everyone, I came up with reasonable proposals. But the results were not as expected. I will do everything in my power so that Romania does not continue for ten years in the direction given by the PSD, that is, in the direction of corruption, nepotism, combinations and governance for some, at the expense of all. We run on our own, determined and courageous. We are running under the USR logo in the presidential and parliamentary elections”, said Elena Lasconi, according to the press release.

USR also adds in the press release sent on Friday that “Elena Lasconi is the best-ranked right-wing candidate in the presidential elections, according to recent polls, so she would be the only one to defeat the PSD candidates in these elections.” “The registration of several right-wing candidates in the race for the presidential elections will only help the PSD candidates”, USR representatives also claim.
