District 5 Mayor Marian Vanghelie has been heard at the headquarters of the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) on Friday.
At the exit, the mayor said he was questioned as witness in the case regarding the Diaspora voting at the presidential elections and that PM Victor Ponta and Liviu Dragnea are responsible for the voting problems, and that they “have mocked the Romanians”. “I said what I believe and I haven’t for one second delimited myself from what I have publicly stated. I have done nothing else but to explain my public statement, with arguments based on logic. I don’t have papers or other documents to bring in front of prosecutors as I do not work with the MFA or with any other institution,” said Marian Vanghelie, according to Mediafax. Vanghelie outlined that, in his opinion, “those who led the campaign are the responsible ones”. The 5th district mayor added that he has no “personal battle” with Victor Ponta and that, “in the present context, characterized by great awkwardness, we must tell the truth”.
The mayor also said that he took part in many discussions at PSD level and that, in his opinion, he was expelled from the party because he was being elected by people. “This is the reason they have not named a campaign director, because they haven’t found someone like me,” said Vanghelie.
Marian Vanghelie mentioned that he plans in touring the countries with big communities of Romanians, such as Spain and Italy,in spring, in order to explain those interested what has really happened at the Diaspora voting. Asked if he has made nominations during the hearings at the DNA Vanghelie answered: “They are being nominated simply because they exist”.
