3 people die in Tulcea County due to floods, hundreds households affected countrywide

Three people have died Tuesday evening, two of them children, due to floods in Tulcea County. All of them were on a cart pulled by one horse and tried to cross a river. A fourth one is missing and is further searched for by emergency teams. It is about two grandparents and their grandchildren. The woman, aged 58 and the two kids aged 4 and 7, were found drowned. The fire-fighters are still searching for the grandfather.

After four days of almost continuous rain, many areas in the country are affected by floods. The most serious situation is in Valcea County, under Code Red until Tuesday evening, more than 100 people have been evacuated.

Meteorologists warn that, during the next 10 days, it will rain again, although many rivers are under Code Orange or Code Red for floods.

In Sibiu County, several rivers have overflown. Traffic is affected near Cristian locality, whereas in Gura Raului the roads are completely covered by water.

In Ploiesti (60 km north of Bucharest) torrential rain and hail have affected households and the crops in suburban areas.

The Ministry of Interior informs that, following the rain on Tuesday, fire-fighters and gendarmes intervened in 98 localities in 23 counties. Most were conducted in the counties of Arges, Gorj and Valcea. The ministry further informs that 33 houses, 340 courtyards and 100 basements were flooded and needed support interventions. However, there are no people missing and the electricity supply has been restored in the affected areas. Traffic is closed on National Road DN7N and on two county roads in Arges County. The alert for floods is still on in the counties of Arges, Olt and Teleorman, the same source informs.
