4yo boy killed by his uncle’s dog

A four-year-old boy has been killed by the family’s dog in Sighetu Marmatiei, Maramures county. The dog belonged to the boy’s uncle, who brought it from Italy two months ago.

The policemen have opened a criminal file for manslaughter against the man. The boy was in care of his grandparents, as his mother was left for work abroad and his father was not home at the moment of the incident.

The tragedy occurred on Monday night, with the dog attacking the boy right in the eyes of his grandmother. The woman has leapt in his defence, but hasn’t managed to save him. The dog, an Amstaff, has bit the boy of his neck and the injuries were fatal.

The American Staffordshire Terrier, also known as Amstaff (in the United States) or simply Stafford, is a medium-sized, short-coated American dog breed. It is one of several breeds commonly known as pit bulls.

According to the American Kennel Club “The Am Staff is a people-oriented dog that thrives when he is made part of the family and given a job to do. Although friendly, this breed is loyal to his own family, but generally very dangerous. The Amstaff dogs are frequently used in dogfights.

The county policemen say the man has brought the dog in Romania without announcing the Police and the cynological association.

Sighetu Marmatiei mayor stated on Tuesday the dog would be put to sleep.
