876 migrants rescued in the Mediterranean by Romanian border policemen

Nearly 900 migrants have been rescued from the beginning of the year by the Romanian border police on the ship ‘Stefan cel Mare’ in the Mediterranean Sea. Of them, more than 300 have received help only the last two days, realitatea.net informs.

The immigrants were in danger of drowning because the inflatable boats were small and crowded. The refugees were travelling to Italy, and at the first assessment, the border guards found they were dehydrated. They were transported to the port of Trapani and handed over to the Italian authorities for identification and for performing the specific procedures.

Romania, along with other European Union Member States, participates in the European Patrol Network project to rescue migrants trying to reach Europe. The operation is ongoing for three months.
