Romanian Olympic students won 3 gold and 2 silver medals at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2023 in Japan, bringing Romania to 1st place in Europe and 3rd place in the world, after China, South Korea (first position) and The United States of America (second position), according to the results announced by the Ministry of Education at noon on Monday, July 17.
After mathematics, Romania also writes history at the International Physics Olympiad held in Tokyo, Japan, between July 10-17, with the participation of 398 students from 84 countries”, the ministry announced on Facebook. Only one student comes from a state high school, the rest are from the same private high school.
A week ago, Romania took 1st place in Europe and 4th place in the world at the International Mathematics Olympiad, also organized in Japan, with a total of 208 points, a record since 1999.
Romanian students awarded at IPhO 2023:
- Oros Vlad Ștefan, “Grigore Moisil” Theoretical High School Timisoara, 12th grade, gold medal
- Momoiu Alexandru, International Theoretical High School of Informatics Bucharest, 11th grade, gold medal, 7th position in the general ranking
- Dragomir Darius Andrei, Bucharest International Theoretical High School of Informatics, 11th grade, gold medal
- Mirică Ioan Alexandru, Bucharest International Theoretical High School of Informatics, 11th grade, silver medal
- Tudose Rareș Felix, Bucharest International Theoretical High School of Informatics, 10th grade, silver meda.
The Romanian batch was coordinated by professor Dr. Delia Davidescu from the Bucharest International Theoretical High School of Informatics and the university lecturer Dr. Popescu Sebastian-Dumitru from the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University, Iași.
