ALDE Deputy Steluta Cataniciu has lost the court case opened at the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR) against Romania after the National Integrity Agency (ANI) has ruled that the MP had been in conflict of interests on administrative matters and the other courts have confirmed it.
The ECHR has ruled, after analyzing the file, that the appeal is inadmissible.
In March 2013 ANI has ruled that Steluta Cataniciu was in conflict of interests on administrative matters when having the position of local adviser with the Cluj-Napoca Council (2008-2012), because she had offered legal advice to a company having a lawsuit opened against the municipality, ziare.com reports.
The Cluj-Napoca Court of Appeals (on December 30, 2013) and the High Court of Cassation and Justice (on November 24, 2017) have rejected the appeal from Steluta Cataniciu to repeal the ANI report. In March 2017, the High Court rejected the appeal for annulment filed by the Deputy.
Then the ALDE MP filed a court case to ECHR.
Steluta Cataniciu is ALDE member and member of the special parliamentary committee on the laws of justice, along with the well-known Florin Iordache, former Justice Minister, incumbent head of the committee and deputy speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.
As the politician is banned from having any public office, but her colleagues have validated the MP mandate, her situation was mentioned in two Cooperation and Verification Reports (CVM) issued in 2017, digi24.ro informs.
