Alert for strong chill, wind, snowfall in several regions

The National Meteorology Administration has issued an alert for intense wind, weather chill and snowfall, valid as of Friday, 22:00hr through Sunday, 16:00hr.

Starting Friday night to Saturday the wind will gradually intensify, in the beginning in the southern regions and in the mountains, and after that also in the central and northwestern country as of Saturday. The wind blasts will reach 45…55kmph, more intense on the seaside and in the southern Banat region, where they will mount to 60…70kmph. On Sunday, January 14, wind will only blast in Dobruja, especially on the seaside, in southern Banat and locally in Muntenia,” the weather forecast reads.

At the same time, weather forecasters announced light snowfalls in most of the country, in Oltenia, Transylvania, and locally in Muntenia. Snowfalls will alternate with sleet in Dobruja, Banat and Crisana. Snowfalls will locally prevail in Moldova and in the mountains.

Light snowfalls will be still reported on Sunday on the seaside, southwestern Oltenia and southern Banat.

The weather will get chillier, so on Sunday the maximum temperatures will be mainly negative, and the nights in early next week will be frosty in northern, northeastern and central country.
