Alfred Bulai Avoids Preventive Arrest in Sexual Abuse Case

Former SNSPA teacher Alfred Bulai, who has been in preventive detention since September 5, will be placed under house arrest, the Bucharest Court decided on Thursday. The court judged the sociologist’s appeal against the District 1 Court’s decision to place him in preventive detention. The Bucharest court admitted Alfred Bulai’s appeal, annulled the decision of the first court and decided to place him under house arrest for 23 days, between September 12 and October 4. The ruling is final.

Alfred Bulai is currentlu in the hospital. One day after the preventive arrest, he was transferred from the Capital Prison to the Military Hospital, as he was not feeling well. According to judicial sources, the blood tests indicated a heart attack.

On September 4, sociologist Alfred Bulai was detained by District 1 prosecutors in the sexual abuse investigation launched after the Snoop investigation. The 1st District Court then accepted the prosecutors’ proposal and issued a 30-day preventive arrest warrant for the former SNSPA teacher.

Bulai is being investigated by prosecutors for abusive use of his position for sexual purposes and sexual aggression against some former students from SNSPA. Prosecutors charged him with four crimes, committed between 2022 and 2024, during internships in Suceava and Alba counties.

According to the investigators, it is about a single victim, whom Bulai humiliated and forced her to endure sexual acts, while they were in his room where he had called the student to give her “feedback” after the practice session.

The authorities’ investigation was triggered after an investigation carried out by Snoop.ro, which revealed that Alfred Bulai, professor, head of the sociology department at SNSPA and political analyst sexually and emotionally abused several female students.
