Meteorologists have issued several severe weather warnings for the entire country. A yellow code for strong winds and blizzards and an orange code for blizzards have been issued. The wind will gust up to 90 kilometers per hour, and nighttime temperatures will drop to minus 10 degrees Celsius.
ANM warns that from Wednesday until Friday at 9 p.m., a warning of extremely cold weather, frost and ground frost, mixed precipitation and increased wind is in effect.
According to meteorologists, “the weather will be extremely cold, both day and night. Maximum temperatures will generally be between 2 and 12 degrees, and during the nights and mornings, predominantly negative temperatures will be recorded, between -7 and 4 degrees, lower in eastern Transylvania up to around -10 degrees. Locally, frost and ground frost will occur”.
ANM also specifies that “there will be intervals of precipitation, snowfall in the mountains, predominantly snowfall in the center, north and northeast and mixed in the rest of the territory”, and “temporarily, the wind will intensify, with speeds generally of 45…55 km/h in most of the country”.
Meteorologists have also issued a yellow code for strong winds, blizzards and snowdrifts valid throughout Thursday, until 11 p.m. Thus, in most of the country “the wind will intensify with speeds of 50…70 km/h, and at altitudes over 1700 m the gusts will be 75…85 km/h”. The ANM informs that “in most of the Eastern Carpathians and locally in the Western Carpathians it will snow and there will be a blizzard. In Maramureș, Transylvania and Moldova, and towards the evening locally and in eastern Wallachia and in Dobrogea snowfalls will prevail which will temporarily be blizzards. A new layer of snow will be deposited on average of 10…20 cm in the mountains and generally of 5…10 cm in southern and eastern Transylvania and locally in Moldova”, meteorologists also say.
The National Meteorological Agency (ANM) has also issued an orange code for strong winds valid throughout Thursday. Thus, “in the low-lying areas of Mehedinți, Dolj and Olt counties there will be strong intensification of the wind with gusts of 70…90 km/h”. “In the Southern Carpathians, the Curvature Carpathians, the Banat Mountains and locally in the Apuseni Mountains the wind will blow strongly with speeds of 70…85 km/h, and at altitudes above 1700 m the gusts will be 85…120 km/h and there will be strong blizzards and very low visibility, below 50 m”, inform meteorologists.
Orange code for blizzard
An orange code has also been issued for strong wind intensification, sleet and visibility below 50 meters in the counties of Vrancea, Galați, Buzău, Brăila, Ialomița and Călărași. This is valid from Thursday from 3 p.m. to Thursday evening at 9 p.m. Thus, the ANM specifies that “in the counties of Vrancea, Galați, Buzău, Brăila, Ialomița and Călărași there will be strong wind intensification with gusts of 70…90 km/h, there will be temporary sleet and visibility will be very low, below 50 m”.
Weather in Bucharest
In the capital, on Wednesday and Thursday morning the weather will be cold. The maximum temperature will be 11…12 degrees, and the minimum -1…2 degrees. The sky will have temporary clouds, and light rains will be possible in the afternoon. The wind will blow weakly and moderately. ANM informs that starting from Thursday morning and until Friday at 09:00, the weather will continue to be colder than normal for this period of the year, but also windy throughout the day. The sky will be variable, with clouds especially in the second part of the day and in the evening when there will be mixed precipitation. The wind will intensify during the day, with gusts of 50…70 km/h, and will weaken in intensity at night. The maximum temperature will be around 13 degrees, and the minimum will be -3…0 degrees. Frost will occur in the morning, according to meteorologists. On Friday, the weather in Bucharest will be cold. The maximum temperature will be around 10 degrees. The sky will be cloudy, and the wind will intensify with speeds of 45…50 km/h.
