Almost 5pc of RAR-tested vehicles in H1 had imminent accident risks

Nearly 5% of the vehicles technically inspected in traffic at national level by the Romanian Car Register (RAR) inspectors in the first six months of the year, i.e. 1,758 vehicles, were in imminent risk of accidents, according to a release on Tuesday.

The vehicles had serious failures of the braking and steering systems.

The Romanian Auto Registry has checked 35,468 vehicles countrywide. Of these, at least 48% had at least one technical nonconformity issue. From the point of view of road safety, the rejection rate of non-compliant vehicles was 37.21%.

Out of the total number of cars, vans, motorcycles and trailers stopped for checks, 39% had various technical or paper problems, and 2.2% were non-compliant in terms of proof carrying out the periodic technical inspection (expired ITP documents, false ITP papers).

As a result of the tests carried out, 9.27% of the checked vehicles by the RAR inspectors were found to exceed the allowed limits of the polluting emissions.

Following the joint inspections carried out in the Cluj-Napoca County by the Romanian Car and Traffic Police, 355 sanctions were applied in the first six months of this year, two driving licenses and 304 registration certificates were retained.
