Bucharest prefect, Alin Stoica has postponed a decision on enforcing the state of alert in District 1, as the district mayor Clotilde Armand had asked following her war with the sanitation company Romprest after the latter had repeatedly denied to pick up the garbage in the district.
Prefect Alin Stoica argued he is waiting for a report by the Environment Guard on this issue.
District 1 mayor Clotilde Armand asked for the enforcement of the state of sanitary alert after the sanitation company Romprest had halted again the collection of the garbage from the streets due to a persisting conflict with the District 1 city hall on the debts payment.
The Capital prefect asked the Public Health Direction, the Sanitary Veterinary Authority and the Environment Guard to make an assessment on this situation, mentioning that, depending on the results, he will decide if he consents to enforce the state of alert in Bucharest’s District 1.
“At this point we haven’t taken a decision yet to accept the request for we don’t have all data yet”, the prefect said.
He revealed he had got the Environment Agency’s response, which ascertains there are no exceeding indicators on garbage pollution, while the Public Health Direction fined Romprest by RON 4,000 and ordered it to re-start collecting the garbage, which actually happened on Saturday.
District 1 mayor, Clotilde Armand threatened she will file criminal complaints for blackmail against the shareholders of the Rompres sanitation company and that she will ask the relevant authorities to strip this operator of its license. Moreover, she said she “will ask the District 1 Local Council and the court to terminate the contract with this extortionist operator”.
Armand has denounced the other days “a new mafia-like blackmail” from Romprest, which refused to collect the garbage in District 1 again, claiming the district city hall had not paid all the sums for its services.
On the other camp, district 1 mayor argued that huge, overrated sums of money had been paid to Rompres by the former local administrations for the collecting the garbage.
