BREAKING: Bistrita River flooded, with about 70 people being evacuated from their houses.
Hydrologists have issued a new Code Red alert for floods on Tuesday on rivers in Valcea, Gorj and Arges counties, where heavy rains have wreaked havoc.
The rivers under the code red alert are Oltet, Cerna, Olt, Lotru. The warning is valid as of Tuesday, at 9:30 until 20:00.
Moreover, the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations has just announced that Bistrita River had flooded and about 70 people in Babeni locality in Valcea county had been evacuated from their households.
Road traffic has also been affected on Valea Oltului, on national road 7, between Ramnicu Valcea and Sibiu, in Calimanesti locality, due to the water accumulated from heavy rains and the silt pouring down the mountain sides.
On the other hand, the National Meteorology Administration has updated the code orange and code yellow alert for heavy rains and instability in the atmosphere and the number of affected counties has been limited.
Thus, the code orange alert for rainstorm is expiring today at 6 p.m., targeting Vrancea, Buzău, Prahova, Covasna, Braşov, Dâmboviţa, Argeş, Sibiu, Vâlcea, Alba, Hunedoara, Gorj and Caraş Severin counties.
Weathermen warn that it will be still raining temporarily in the northern half of Oltenia and Muntenia, in southern Transylvania and in the area of the Southern and Curvature Carpathians, with falls mounting to 25 liters/sqm, up to 40-50l/sqm in certain areas.
Massive floods in the past 24 hours: Tens of localities in 27 counties affected, people evacuated
67 localities in 27 counties are affected by latest floods, namely in Alba, Argeş, Bacău, Bihor, Bistriţa Năsăud, Botoşani, Cluj, Constanţa, Covasna, Dolj, Gorj, Giurgiu, Hunedoara, Ilfov, Ialomiţa, Mehedinţi, Maramureş, Mureş, Neamţ, Olt, Sibiu, Sălaj, Suceava, Timiş, Teleorman, Vâlcea andVaslui counties, but also in Bucharest.
Tens of households in Arges county have been flooded, while in Sibiu and Bacau firemen and gendarmes were in the field helping local authorities build temporary dams to prevent rivers from flooding.
Firefighters have pumped out the water from 82 houses, 220 courtyards, 91 gardens, 133 basements, 38 streets, two household annexes and have cleaned 147 fountains.
At present there were one national road and one county road still closed, DN7D in Valcea and DJ 106E in Alba county. Six people are still evacuated from their houses, two in Sacel village in Sibiu and four in Jibou, Salaj. 215 people were without electricity in three localities in Arges and Bihor counties.
