Colectiv club fire: 90 patients in critical and serious condition. Seven surgeons taking care of one patient

90 patients admitted in Bucharest hospitals following nightclub fire are in critical and serious condition, meaning they are in an unprecedented condition, with burns unseen so far, Health Minister Nicolae Banicioiu (photo) said on Tuesday, while adding that seven surgeons “are taking care” of one patient.

“We are facing an unexpected situation. Those 90 patients in serious condition actually mean there are 1,000 patients with burns which have been seen before. It’s not only me who says that, other experts from Romanian and from abroad are saying it,” Banicioiu stated, adding that many specialists who came from other countries gave up after seeing these unprecedented cases.

Seven doctors are taking care of one single patient.

“One doctor is operating the leg, another one the face, another one the arm and so on. The French doctors told us they didn’t think they could deal with this. I say it again. A team has six to seven surgeons. A full team could have about 10-15 doctors. At Floreasca Hospital only there are 40 surgeons and 25 house physicians. Hospitals proved they have very well trained medical staff,” Banicioiu pointed out.

Regarding the current situation of the skin banking, Health minister said there are 7,000 centimeters of skin right now.

A French expert in treating serious burns came in Romania on Monday and after visiting several hospitals in Bucharest stated he had never seen such situation before.
