Communist bread recipes back on the market

After November 1st  bakers revive several kinds of communist bread recipes, including ‘Bucharest loaf’, 65 inches long, containing, besides the classic ingredients, sugar, milk and fats, Aurel Popescu, Rompan said for MEDIAFAX.

Starting November 1st we’ll put up for sale new, premium products that will be made after an old recipe. With added sugar, milk and fats, these loaves will be more expensive than the conventional ones. Bread was better, healthier and more natural before 1989 since it didn’t contain enhancers’, said Aurel Popescu, president of Rompan and bakery owner.

New types of bread will be certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, ensuring they respect the recipes and they don’t contain enhancers.

“We’ll bring white bread, graham, black, potatoes but rye bread too. We will revive ‘Bucharest loaf’ Capital brand, a 65 inches long baguette, weighing 400-500 grams, with white flour, yeast, salt, milk, margarine and sugar”, an official of the Employer’s Association stated.

Bakery and milling products have a market share of around 1 billion euros annually.
