Court of Auditors: Chaos in hospital spending with money from Health Ministry, RON 61m damages in 2015

Medical equipment purchased with RON 55 million from public hospitals in the country has not been commissioned or has not been used for the initial purpose, the Court of Auditors reveals. The chaos in the health system, described in the draft of a report from the Court of Auditors for 2015, includes illegal payments of RON 500,000 through value overstatement and payments of RON 5 million for medical equipment purchased without compliance of the public procurement procedures, hotnews.ro reports.

Basically, the Court examined the way hospitals have spent in 2015 the funds paid by the Ministry of Health for the purchase of equipment and medical equipment.

The Court of Auditors inspectors claim in the quoted report that the Health Ministry “has not checked properly the application of legal provisions concerning the purchase of medical equipment to ensure savings and efficiency in subordinated health units and in locally subordinated health units.”

The total damage calculated by the Court amounted to RON 61.7 million in 2015.

An example of how public money is spent on health is represented by the Burns Department with the Floreasca Emergency Hospital. Despite spending more than EUR 9 million for equipment, supplies and services, the department is still not fully functional.
