Famous heart surgeon Serban Bradisteanu, head of the heart surgery ward at Floreasca Hospital in Bucharest and former Social Democrat senator cannot justify the origin of EUR 3,595,333 and USD 414,000 in his fortune.
The case is quite old, but it has been settled in court and now the integrity inspectors can proceed with seizing this sum of money from the doctor’s wealth.
Practically, the committee for investigating fortunes upon the Bucharest Court of Appeal on Wednesday admitted the National Integrity Agency’s request to seize about EUR 4 million from Serban Bradisteanu’s fortune.
The first ANI ordered to seize those money from the doctor was in September 2008, arguing he cannot explain their origin.
Initially, the committee for investigating fortunes has closed down the case, but ANI challenged the decision at the High Court of Cassation and Justice (Romania’s Supreme Court).
The unjustified money would have been obtained during 2000-2004 when Serban Bradisteanu was Social Democrat senator.
