The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) has validated Corina Corbu for the position of chairwoman of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court).
“The candidacy of Mrs. Judge Corina Corbu for the ICCJ top office has been admitted by the CSM Judges’ Section,” CSM officials have said on Thursday.
The interview on Thursday, having Corina Corbu as sole candidate, lasted more than four hours. It is for the first time that the ICCJ chief is appointed by the CSM Judges’ Section with no opinion from the President of Romania.
During the interview, the CSM members asked questions which revealed great tensions among them. On one side there was the current ICCJ chairwoman Cristina Tarcea, on the other side CSM chief Lia Savonea, supported by the CSM members from the High Court – Simona Manea and Mariana Ghena.
Cristina Tarcea said the nomination procedure to appoint the next ICCJ chief violates Law 303/2004 regarding the statute of magistrates.
