Romanian Defense Minister Mihai Fifor has announced on Wednesday during the opening ceremony of the Black Sea Defense & Aerospace conference (BSDA) that the ministry is on the verge of concluding procedures to start the endowment program for the naval forces.
Fifor said the ministry’s representatives have visited, among others, the production facilities in Greece for submarines, for here there is cooperation between Greek defense industry and large companies. DefMin said the Romanian Navy will submit the requests in this regard to the CSAT and to the Romanian Parliament.
Fifor also said that production will be resumed at IAR, the leading Romanian aerospace company based in Brasov. IAR S.A. Braşov is a MRO specialized unit for Puma and Alouette III helicopters.
The minister announced that the Army is in talks to buy four F16s.
Over 270 exhibitors in 24 countries are attending BSDA in Bucharest these days.
