DIPI officer detained after setting house on fire, injuring two following domestic fight

An officer of the Interior Ministry’s intelligence department-DIPI (Directorate for Intelligence and Internal Protection) was detained on Thursday night after setting on fire an apartment in Pitesti following row with his wife and after shooting a policeman and another woman when the police forces arrived on the scene to heal the breach.

Investigators say the man was drunk and took seven shots injuring a man and a woman.

Alin Marian Marin, aged 36, officer with the Directorate for Intelligence and Internal Protection, was in the apartment in Pitesti that the woman he got married to three months ago had rented for about 5 years.

Police officers say that after a row, the woman managed to take her children out and leave the apartment. The DIPI officer, who was drunk at the moment, set the place on fire and left, but he returned some tens minutes after. He ran into policemen, gendarmes and firemen came for fire extinguishing, but also into lodgers, alerted by the fire and noise.

At that moment, the DIPI officer took seven shots at the crowd, with one of the bullets hitting a police officer in the head and another one hitting the owner of the apartment in the leg, a woman.

A gendarme managed to immobilize the DIPI officer and policemen handcuffed him. He was detained for 24 hours, with the prosecutors proposing a 30-day preventive arrest against him.

The woman shot in the leg was discharged from hospital, being out of any danger, while the policeman with a 4-cm injury in the head is still admitted to the neurosurgery ward of the Arges County Hospital.

The Prosecutor’s Office upon the Pitesti Court of Appeal took over the investigation.
