Diplomats’ trade union sends open letter to the PM: 70pc of employees with execution positions will have wages cut as of 2018

The trade union of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) employees has sent Prime Minister Mihai Tudose an open letter to draw the attention that the wages of diplomats with execution positions will decrease following the enforcement of the unitary wage law as of January 1, 2018. The trade unionists show that some of the wage decreases will reach 30% and ask for a solution to the situation, hotnews.ro informs.

The trade union also shows that the Emergency Ordinance adopted on Wednesday by the Government does not solve the problem of employees, as they will see their wages decrease.

“The trade union organization with the MAE requests the Romanian Government an emergency meeting in the attempt to eliminate the injustices included in Law 153/2017 on the salary of budgetary functions ‘Diplomacy’ in the twelfth hour.

As a result of the simulations on wages of the managerial and executive staffs conducted within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we understand that the enforcement of the provisions of the said law as of January 1, 2018 would seriously affect the long-term decision-making employees in the institution, being significantly compromised the notion of professional career for diplomats,” the open letter reads.

“The trade union will inform the MAE employees about the lack of dialogue with those who have built a wage law that demotivates the employees and the management of the institution, by diminishing the wage earnings, and soon we will take all necessary legal measures to defend the rights of the members,” the letter concludes.
