District 3 mayor, Robert Negoita, was subpoenaed at the General Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday where prosecutors informed he is criminally prosecuted in the PhD work plagiarism file.
“I was informed they started criminal prosecution against me and in this case I need a lawyer,” Negoita said.
The Bucharest District 3 mayor was prosecuted for abuse of office, abetment to forgery in deeds by private signature, abetment to forgery and use of forgery. According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, Negoita is a suspect in this case.
Prosecutors also started criminal prosecution in the same case against Ioan Dascalu, the coordinator of Negoita’s PhD thesis, for abuse of office, forgery in deeds by private signature, forgery and use of forgery.
The “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Police Academy informed the Education Ministry in July that Robert Negoita’s PhD work is plagiarized, with the ministry recommending the CNATDCU the withdrawal of the mayor’s PhD title.
Robert Negoita practically admitted the plagiarism, saying that his only regret was that he had been tempted in the past by this academic title ‘fashion’.
Negoita got his PhD title in judicial sciences in 2012, a title granted by the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Police Academy in Bucharest.
His PhD work was entitled “The economic financial crisis and its impact on the social balance.”
