The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) Chief Prosecutor, Laura Codruţa Kovesi, the Deputy Chief Prosecutor Marius Iacob and Prosecutor Gheorghe Popovici are under disciplinary investigation by the Judicial Inspectorate (JI) following a complaint filed by former DNA investigators Mihaiela Moraru Iorga and Doru Ţuluş.
“Given the evidence of disciplinary misconduct, judicial inspectors have decided the start of disciplinary investigations against prosecutors DNA chief Laura Codruta Kovesi, DNA Deputy Chief Prosecutor Marius Iacob and Gheorghe Popovici, Chief of department at DNA,” the Judicial Inspectorate informs.
The quoted source states that the referral, to which other similar complaints were joined, was assigned to the Directorate for Judicial Inspection for Prosecutors.
Prosecutors Doru Ţuluş, Mihaiela Moraru Iorga and Nicolae Marin filed a complaint with the Judicial Inspectorate in which they complained about the way in which the internal investigation was carried out following the release by the press of a recording with the Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruţa Kovesi during a DNA working meeting.
JI says Prosecutor General did not violate the Code of Conduct when making statements on EGO 13, sources say
The Judicial Inspectorate has decided that Romanian Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar did not violate the Code of Conduct when making statements on OUG13 / 2017, sources said.
According to the quoted sources, the conclusion of the report drawn up by the Judicial Inspection, given the circumstances in which the statements were made, shows that there was no breach of the Code of Conduct.
The Judicial Inspectorate’s report is discussed on Tuesday by the Prosecutor’s Section of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM).
The Judicial Inspection received a complaint from journalist Răzvan Savaliuc, in which all the statements of the General Prosecutor Augustin Lazar and of the DNA Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruţa Kovesi regarding the EGO 13/2017 are presented, and which invokes the magistrates’ obligation to be reserved.
