DNA head Kovesi invited for hearings at CSM on Tuesday. JusMin to also attend

The prosecutors’ section within the Superior Council of Magistracy has invited the chief prosecutor of the National Anti-corruption Directorate, Laura Codruta Kovesi, for hearings on Tuesday, following the dismissal procedure initiated by Justice minister, Tudorel Toader. The meeting is scheduled at 14:00hr. Kovesi hasn’t confirmed her presence yet. On the other hand, Justice minister Tudorel Toader has confirmed he would attend the debates.

Amid general interest in the consultative opinion asked to the Superior Council of Magistracy, the Prosecutors Section informs the public opinion that it will discuss the Justice Ministry’s request on recalling the chief prosecutor of the National Anti-corruption Directorate, in the sitting scheduled on Tuesday, February 27, at 14:hr, at the CSM’s HQs,” reads a CSM press release. Laura Codruta Kovesi has been invited to the meeting.

Justice minister Tudorel Toader announced last week he had started procedures to recall DNA head from office, while presenting a 36-page report in which he accused Kovesi of “20 charges” committed during her activity as DNA chief prosecutor from February 2017 through February 2018.

The dismissal of the anti-corruption chief prosecutor or of Romania’s Prosecutor General is made by the Romanian President, upon the proposal of the Justice minister, who can also be notified ex-officio. The CSM opinion is consultative.
