Doctor beaten by parents at ‘Marie Curie’ Hospital

A doctor with the ‘Marie Curie’ Hospital in Bucharest was attacked on Tuesday by the parents of a child hospitalized for 24 hours.

The doctor suffered an eye injury and needed medical care. The parents attacked him after being unhappy with the news given by the doctor.

“The child had no severe disease, but his parents were deeply unhappy with the care and the answers provided by the doctor and they became extremely aggressive. After insulting the doctor, they attacked him by slapping him on the face – causing his eye bleeding and bringing the doctor in shock,” said Prof. Dr. Mihaela Bălgrădean, chief of paediatric Nephrology at the hospital ‘Marie Curie’ for Digi24.

Thus, the parents were not happy with the diagnosis. “It was a diagnosis of not very serious respiratory disease, as they were certain the diagnosis was more severe,” said Dr. Mihaela Bălgrădean.

She added she had never encountered such incidents in the hospital, in the 33 years of activity. “We were verbally abused, but nothing similar to what happened yesterday,” the doctor added.

The assaulted doctor complained to the police and the hospital unit will do the same.

Under the law, threatening medical personnel shall be punished by imprisonment from six months to two years or by fine, hitting or other violence – by imprisonment from six months to three years, injury – by imprisonment from 6 months to 6 years, serious bodily harm – by imprisonment from 3 to12 years.
